Two of the least respected artists of their time coming together for a project that was inevitably going to happen yet no one besides their niche fanbase would ever want. In fact, imagine an album that is the complete opposite of that. Not the record I’m talking about today, but you should definitely give it a listen.Īlright, now imagine an album that didn’t have any of that. ![]() Paak’s collaborative effort “An Evening With Silk Sonic”. I am of course talking about Bruno Mars and Anderson. It has its heavier moments, but overall it’s a fun and massively enjoyable project, a triumph of both artists’ careers and a shining moment for not just collab albums or albums of said genre, but very likely of the 2020’s as a whole. Outstanding production, stunning singing, infectious rapping, and just oozing with personality and charisma through every single song. It’s a love letter to the genres of music they grew up with that shows a massive deal of respect for the artists they’re inspired by, yet their own creativity spins it to become something uniquely their own and not just a pale imitation. They compliment each others’ strengths and cover each others’ weaknesses all while challenging each other to be even better along the way. After years of honing their skills and putting out solid discographies that are adored by many, they unexpectedly come together and become a pair that’s even better than themselves. Imagine with me a collab album, bringing together two of the most respected artists in modern music.
